All Gmail Users Need to Change their Password Immediately? Not So Fast.

Do All Gmail Users Really Need to Change Their Passwords Immediately? What's Really Going On?
On Friday, and over the Labor Day weekend, viral headlines warned of a massive Gmail breach, with titles such as "Gmail users: Change your password now" and "Google issues another warning for Gmail users to secure their accounts."
According to the reports, Google allegedly "sent notifications to its 2.5 billion Gmail users in late July and then again on Aug. 8, warning them that hackers were ramping up phishing activity intended to fool users into giving up their log-in credentials."
However, following the headlines, Google stated that the claims of an emergency alert were "entirely false," AL.com reported.
While it's true that a hacking group named Shiny Hunters breached Google's Salesforce database, the intrusion did not compromise its other products, such as Google Drive or Gmail. Further, no passwords or financial data were exposed.
"We want to reassure our users that Gmail’s protections are strong and effective," Google said in a statement issued on Labor Day. "Several inaccurate claims surfaced recently that incorrectly stated that we issued a broad warning to all Gmail users about a major Gmail security issue. This is entirely false."
Nonetheless, Google advises people to change their passwords regularly. This is simply a good practice for all online accounts.
